If you are a military brat
this is nostalgia, if you aren't one, it's as good of insight as you can get.
Enjoy!
You Know You're An AF Brat
If you've slept in a barracks before you were 12.
You signed your name and your Dad's serial # on library cards.
It doesn't seem weird that you live, surrounded by barb-wire.
It seems normal to lose touch with friends.
You've moved at least once every 2 or 3 years.
Hearing jets break the sound barrier doesn't make you blink.
You know where you lived by which grade you were in at the time.
When it takes at least 5 minutes to answer, "Where are you from".
You make friends right away because you know you'll be transferred soon.
All your siblings and you were born in different states.
Chasing DDT trucks was an afternoons pass time.
Lifestyles: Military or Civilian
You get antsey if you live somewhere "too long".
Being on "Alert" seemed normal.
Knowing if you did something wrong, your Dad would pay for it.
You've owned a camel saddle.
At an early age you know what military corners are.
You've spoken pidgeon English.
You can't sleep as well if you don't hear airplanes.
Blue buses.
You had base I.D. and dog tags.
You've read the Air Force Times.
You're used to seeing another person wear the same exact thing as you because we all shop
at one store.
You've lived without TV for 2 years, no sweat.
It was "OK" to decorate a card table with crepe paper instead of having a
Christmas tree. and decorate the walls with 3-D stars made from gold wrapping paper.
And last, and my excuse for any clutter I continue to carry around now:
Realising that the amount of stuff you have as an adult is in direct proportion to the
amount of stuff you had to jetison as a child with every move.
